East Meets West Healing Paradigm

Yoga Nidra

Yoga Nidra may be translated as "sleep of the yogis".  It includes disciplines and traditions of dream, sleep and yoga.  Fundamentally, Yoga Nidra is engaged to prepare a yogi spiritually, emotionally, and physically prior to seeking sublime levels of consciousness through meditation, trance and other spiritual practices.  The true Yoga Nidra is a state of consciousness in which the yogi is in direct communion with the Divine energy of the Universe.  Adherents of Yoga Nidra hold that half an hour of practice may yield the benefit of up to three hours of standard sleep.

Qigong

Qigong is an ancient Chinese health care system that integrates physical postures, breathing techniques and focused intention.  The word Qigong is made up of two Chinese words: Qi is usually translated to mean the life force or vital-energy that flows through all things in the universe and Gong translates as accomplishment or skill that is cultivated through steady practice. Together, Qigong means cultivating energy and is a system practiced for health maintenance, healing and increasing vitality.

AquaNidra

Within the Yoga and Qigong traditions there are energy circulating, gathering, balancing and storing techniques that are well suited to use during floatation sessions.  The foundational AquaNidra techniques will draw on both systems.  As this truly American yoga practice evolves there will be a variety of approaches based on individual preferences, temperament and intended results.  Traditionally these systems are refined from one generation to the next.  This tradition of refinement continues today with the addition of floatation REST to these powerful and sometimes secret practices

AquaNidra audio content is being developed along the lines of a traditional vertical market strategy.  Initial AquaNidra meditation audio will familiarize and acclimatize the user to this new environment for healing.  This basic content will be helpful with the following range of health problems:

  • Pain Relief;
  • Stress Management;
  • Hypertension;
  • Depression; and
  • Anxiety.

As the user progresses through the basic practice, Driftaway provides more targeted AquaNidra content designed to aid consumers with more specific health issues such as:

  • Substance Abuse;
  • Athletic Performance and Recovery;
  • Business Performance and Recovery;
  • Grief;
  • Smoking Cessation;
  • Couples Therapy;
  • ADD / ADHA;
  • Post Traumatic Stress Disorder; and

AquaNidra will expand and evolve beyond the vertical applications listed above.  Driftaway will use its AquaNidra distribution network to create an open forum for other content providers to develop programming based upon their expertise. Driftaway will manage the distribution of content and create business models to motivate the creation of third party programming.

The AquaNidra Floatation System

Yoga and other eastern spiritual practices have experienced a rapid growth in popularity in the United States over the last twenty years.  A 2001 study by the Sporting Goods Manufacturing Association notes that Pilates, Yoga and Tai Chi are by far the exercise activities with the highest growth rates.  Separately, the results of a Harris Interactive poll released by the Yoga Journal in June 2003 showed:

  • 15 million Americans practiced yoga in 2002;
  • More than 12% of the U.S. population, or 25.5 million people, were "very" or "extremely interested" in the practice of yoga;
  • 16% or 35.3 million people "intend to try yoga within the next 12 months";
  • Over half the U.S. adult population, roughly 109.7 million people, have at least a "casual interest in the practice of yoga"; and
  • The growth in yoga practice from 2001 to 2002 was 28%.

The market for yoga in particular has grown tremendously, as it is estimated that Americans now spend $27 billion annually on yoga products.  A simple search for "Yoga" books on Amazon.com turns up 18,700 results.  AquaNidra harnesses America’s growing interest in eastern practices to provide a new alternative for authentic health and healing.

AquaNidra is the essence of Asian spiritual awareness discipline combined with the most conducive environment western science has created: floatation REST.  It blends the principles of two major spiritual disciplines, Yoga Nidra and Qigong, with the receptive meditative state fostered by floatation REST to open up health and healing benefits to a larger audience.
